Dealio

We are Tez and Ken and 5 years ago we joined a movement of travelers; wanderers; full-time RV-ers. We've traveled the highways connecting, twisting and turning throughout this great nation of ours in search of spectacles we had never seen before. Without a doubt this move paid off and after a brief hiatus, we are back on the road looking for more wild and wonder and possibly a home to settle down in, but for now, we embark on today and look forward to Rolling Through the Rest of our Lives,

"Why are we doing this?"
A number of reasons come to mind; health, age, the desire to be proactive rather than reactive. Since my Alpha-1 diagnosis in 2005, my projected life span has been drastically changed. This change brings about the need to ensure that I live life to the fullest. Tez and I have often talked about the ability to take on adventures when we are well into our 60's.

When retirement comes, our age coupled with health, may prevent us from doing the things we always wanted to do. Our aging parts may lessen the drive to feel able to take on the world. So, rather than wait until we are old and retired to get our bucket lists completed, Tez and I are being proactive by getting out now and savoring each adventure; to relax and enjoy every moment without the stress of a ticking clock.

"How are you able to do this?"
Planning and a lot of baby steps have gotten us this far. We have slowly transitioned into our mobile lifestyle. Tez still works remotely to sustain her health coverage and our living expenses which, like our square footage, is projected to be greatly reduced. It took research, planning and some testing to ensure that she would have reliable internet, power sources and other resources to keep her livelihood a reality. Ken makes extra income as a graphic designer and has plans to keep producing cut vinyl from the motor home. Though his health has kept him out of the normal workforce and his income is supplemented by his social security, he continues to be active to keep his Alpha from getting the upper hand. After all, he has to keep the rig operating on all levels to ensure their adventures continue.

"Where are you going to go?"
This is probably the most common question. And, "Anywhere we want", is the typical answer. As long as there's a road in front of us we'll be happy to go where it leads, provided there aren't too many potholes and the rig will fit.

WHERE

Take It or Leave It

Almost every place we visit has a flare; a fresh idea; a taste like no other. Occasionally, it's a bust. Sometimes, it's a blast! When that happens it is like finding gold.
We're going to do our best to showcase those unique experiences that we discover on our way across America.

Napoli Cowboy- Wirtz, VA
Crème Brûlée to die for
♥ We got this recommendation from our boondocking host in Wirtz. Initially, we were looking for a great pizza joint and what we got was a fusion of hearty, central Texas flavor combined with a zesty, authentic Italian cuisine. The crème brûlée is a generous portion of a rich and creamy custard topped with a perfectly caramelized sugar. As big as as it is it will be tough to share, but we found the will to do just that.

Big Daddy's Bar & Grill- Augusta, GA
Like nothing you ever tasted before
♥ Another boondocker recommendation had us licking our fingers and diving into the other white meat. It was the pork that won my bride's taste buds over and she's not a big pork eater. Well prepared and excellently seasoned, it is a shame that this restaurant fell prey to the pandemic like so many others across the nation.

Hearth Wood Fired Pizza- Beaufort, SC
Delicious ambiance
♥ Upon returning from a day trip to Hunting Island State park, we stumbled upon this great pizza joint that offered up a delicious orchestration of sauce and fresh toppings on a thin wood fired crust. Bravo! but it wasn't just the food, it was the rustic decor and industrial tapestry that made us feel like we had NOT seen it all.

Swig & Swine- Charleston, SC
Twisted barbeque
♥ This is a taste of Southern Barbeque at its finest. It was our first trip to Charleston and this experience fell in our lap. Recipes inscribed on the chalkboard walls and everything about the medley of seasonings brings your taste buds down home and your palette longing for more.

Brixx Wood Fired Pizza- Winston-Salem, NC
Move over Big Mac
♥ Perfect execution of a deconstructed cheeseburger on a pizza canvas. Need we say more? If we did, we would say you could "have it your way", but no matter what, this great selection is a must have while in North Carolina.

Florencia Pizza Bistro- Phoenix, AZ
Pizza by candle light?

♥ When it comes to "pizza night", you don't often think of fine dining. However, Florencia Pizza Bistro offers delicious hand tossed pizza in an ultra fine dining atmosphere. It was fate that we happened upon this scrumptious dinner after being turned away from The Melting Pot and absolutely no reservation required.

Tartini Pizzaria and Spaghetteria- Pine Castle, FL
Prepare... to be AMAZED!
♥ We are a bit stingy of praise when it comes to Italian food. Afterall, we were brought up in the Mecca of Americanized Italian Cuisine, Little Italy, Endicott, NY. So when we sampled this restaurant, east of Orlando, we couldn't hold back our astonishment. Their use of seasoning and combination of flavors was to DIE for and what's more, their signature dish, Pasta Alla Ruota, is a sight to behold. This dish is prepared in front of their guests and it is quite the spectacle. The flaming brandy, the melting cheese wheel and the excellent staff who prepare this dish are just amazing. And we haven't even started to mention how delicious the creamy cheese dish is. Prepare yourself and get a reservation. Our waiter, Fernando from Venezuela, told us he and each of his staff execute this dish at least ten times a night. BRAVO!

BaR Harbor Cheesecake Factory- St. Augustine, FL
Cheesecake can be an entrée, too
♥ With at least 90 flavors to please anyone's taste buds, you'll have a hard time choosing, like we did. So we bought over a dozen and they were well worth the indulgence.  These little cheesecakes pack a punch in the flavor department and you'll be glad to just skip dinner and dive right in. OH! and with another location in Maine, it doesn't matter where you are for the summer, north or south.

Much to our amazement,  the West Coast did not wow us in the flavor department.  I guess we'll have to get back to the East Coast to satisfy our appetite!
