“I’m going to take off someday and travel the world. I’m just going to get in my car and find some lonely road. When I retire, I’m going to see places, visit people and experience this life like never before.” And now the time has come.
It was about two years ago that we announced to friends and family that we were making plans to live the rest of our lives on the road. There were mixed feelings about the idea to sell 80% of what we had accumulated over 50 years and to remove ourselves from the 1500 square foot anchor to venture off in a 240 square foot rolling ball of diesel thunder.
Fast forward a year and a half and we’ve only pawned off 5% of our stuff and acquired a 37-foot Class A motor home. We’re not fooling around anymore, I’m here to tell ya.
So now, here we are at the beginning of our journey, testing the waters. In mid-August we set out to our first long-term stay only a short distance away from our bricks and sticks home. The purpose of this was to test reliable internet for work, living close to one another in small quarters and systems check of our newly acquired motor home. All has fared well within the near two months that has passed. Even the animals show some signs of adjustment in their tiny spaces. Don’t get me wrong, there have been obstacles, but no more challenging than the normal, just different.
We continue to park farther away from the place we called home for so many years, dipping deeper into the waters of full-time RV-ers. That is our dream and it is not far from being realized. This is the place where we’ll document and divulge the promise and the perils of the rest of our lives, as we roll through. Join us, if you dare.
