The new year is upon us and what better time to start a new chapter. It is, after all, a time of resolutions and making changes in our lives that we would otherwise have no reason to initiate, much less, think of. This change is big, though, folks. Colossal, may be a better descriptor. So buckle up, butter cup, the new year is here. Happy New Year, everyone!
Now that the grossly insane holiday meals have been tabled, so to speak, my everything and I have begun the process of pitching and purging; of heaving and hauling; and making what was once 50 years of material treasures into 50 kilograms of "I just can't let it go!" We have been going full tilt for some time now and it seems we have acquired an impressive amount of stuff. At first, it was pretty easy sending our belongings on their merry way to a new home to be used or abused in a manner we had no interest in knowing about. Now it seems we have reached the real meat of our material anchors. It's as though we have begun pouring over the stuff that has feelings attached to it like nerve endings beneath the skin. Our momentum has slowed. Carving through our belongings in order to bring as little as possible back to the Rolling Ball of Diesel Thunder, is becoming arduous. Our time here is short and we each predict our resistance to give up that which we hold dear and near to our hearts, will soon become the source of great waves of bickering and angst.
Our families have taken on the majority of our belongings and made out like proverbial bandits. Some of our goods have been donated to charity and the higher dollar items have been sold on a number of different market places. Now it is the numerous piles that must be gone over, again, to determine what can be left behind and what, absolutely must fit in the back of our Trailblazer and newly acquired cargo rack. Don't forget, we have a dog that takes up 2/3rds of the back seat and a cat who can't go anywhere without her beloved litterbox. For me, it is tools of my talents. For her, it is a love of books and genealogy. For both of us, it is a challenging task.
So, with less than a month to go, an empty second floor and a nearly empty basement, we are staging everything between the living room and the garage and crossing our fingers that it's all stuff with fluff and that our truck is definitely bigger than it looks.
Anyone want to move an upright washer/dryer set out of the basement with me?
