And with all of the boxes packed tightly in rows and the ratchet straps snugged firmly in place, we put the pedal to the metal and cruised quietly south to our home over rubber waiting patiently in South Carolina. 12 hours later we were there. Weary from our travels and ready to park our butts in bed before our short trip to the southern tip of the state.
All went well. The mountain of earthly possessions atop our truck and stacked neatly on the cargo rack made it in one piece. Gracie held it together very well, much to our surprise. Chase, was Chase. Crashed out in the back with no cares in the world.... unless we slowed to make a pit stop. Then he was wide eyed and ready to sniff the unknown soil beneath his feet. The first few days have been rainy, but the boxes filled with what remained of our lives have slowly made their way into our new home. We may have to admit that it is a bit overwhelming finding nooks and crannies capable of holding what we've brought. However, with a bit of ingenuity and some really good organizing skills, we'll have everything put away in no time. Whether we'll be overweight or not, is the question. That will be up to the scales.
What surprises the most, is how well we shaved off the mass of our belongings. There is no doubt that additional trimming is needed, but we are hopeful that it will come off just as positive as it did before. Also surprising is the lack of wall space to hang decor that didn't make the cut.
So, now the real journey begins. We are looking ahead to the south as Georgia and Florida are laid out in our path. We look forward to seeing new spaces of our country that seem foreign to us. Savannah is on the docket, as is Charleston. Our hope is to be within visiting distance to many of our friends and family who have ventured away from the confines of the New York borders. Our doors are always open and, weather permitting, the camp chairs are out under the awning ready for s'mores and conversation.
Now we must get back to these boxes. They're not going to empty themselves.
